Tom Washatka

Jazz saxophonist, composer, arranger, and educator. Tom plays soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophone, clarinet, flute, and keyboards. For over three decades Tom has performed in a wide variety of contexts ranging from jazz bands to symphonic orchestras. He’s toured all over the United States as well as Japan and Europe.

Tom grew up in Milwaukee, graduated from high school in Appleton WI, and obtained a bachelors degree in music at the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh. He studied saxophone in Milwaukee with Berkley Fudge and in Chicago with Joe Daly. He’s currently Professor of Jazz Saxophone and Improvisation at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI.

Tom’s been composing, arranging, and recording for the last 30 years, He writes and arranges commercial music for his own business as well as with his own quartet. He co-owns a project recording studio in Oshkosh where he now resides with his wife/vocalist, Janet Planet. He’s co-produced over 20 recordings with Janet on their record label Stellar Records started in 1995.

Tom’s had a long musical relationship with Mark Gungor. “I first met Mark in the mid-80’s. We started a music library business in the early 90’s and it’s so great to hook up with him again. I love this business and have never done anything else. I’m very blessed to be able to make a living recording, performing and teaching.”
